Darkness and destruction descended on Birmingham last weekend at the UK Games Expo. No, we’re not talking about the state our shelves were left in after thousands of eager wargamers had been through our stand, but about the hellish battlefields of the Konflikt ‘47 universe! If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry – read on for a recap of all the headlines!
NEW MODELS
Fresh from the Rifts, we saw a host of brand new models appear in public for the first time! Axis Stahltruppen heavy infantry are extremely durable, all but impervious to small arms fire, and can lay down a storm of firepower of their own.
They are backed up by the scuttling Vogelspinne, an extremely agile six-legged Panzermech, which can be equipped with a variety of weapons to best suit the situation at hand.
Opposing the Axis, the American Firefly drop troopers can appear at a moment’s notice from the skies in lightning fast raids, dispensing swift justice with their Rift weapons before igniting their gravity-defying repulsor packs and leaping away to safety.
Where the fireflies are not quite enough, the aptly named Linebacker jump walker is just the machine to drop into that breach, specifically engineered to withstand the pressures of a high velocity, low altitude combat drop. Its formidable array of weaponry is more than a match for even the newest iterations of Axis heavy armour.
These are the very first of an exciting new chapter of releases for Konflikt ’47. These four units will all be coming – IN PLASTIC – in the first wave of releases in September!
DISPLAY BOARD
Our heroic team of volunteers has been working feverishly over the last few weeks to bring war-ruined Stuttgart to life. Packed with incredible details, it’s an absolute work of art, and should give you some idea of what to expect from the new edition of Konflikt ’47. No green fields or honourable combat here – this is not war. This is the end. Infantry, monsters, and mechs, both new and existing, did battle against the backdrop of burned-out buildings and smoke-filled skies. See what you can spot in the close-ups – there might be a few clues about the universe hiding in there!
NEW INTEL
Our Head of Product & Marketing, Peter Gosling, was on hand all weekend to answer a plethora of questions – you can check out a video here courtesy of OnTableTop, but the key points in brief are:
This is a Game of Heroes, Horrors, Monsters and Mechs: The Rift has been woven into the very core of the game – you’ll need to manage this valuable resource in battle carefully. Rift units are capable of extremely powerful feats, but Rift energy is not inexhaustible in the heat of battle. Heroes can alter the ebb and flow of battle with powerful in-game effects, adding to the narrative feel of each game. With Konflikt ’47 you’ll be able to tell great stories, just from playing games.
Incredible Gameplay: Konflikt ’47 is a standalone game, but draws from familiar and renowned elements from Bolt Action: Third Edition, and greatly expands upon them. Bolt Action fans will recognise such elements as drawing Order Dice to determine activation order, pin markers, cover saves, and Platoon Selectors to build an army. Exciting new mechanics to reflect the power of Rift-technology are central to the experience, as are the named heroes that will lead forces. Konflikt ‘47 is designed to produce amazing, narrative-driven games, packed with action.
July 4th Pre-Orders: Konflikt ‘47 will be coming to pre-order at the start of July – so that’s what the mysterious countdown on the website was all about!
Late September Release: No need to wait until Christmas – Konflikt ‘47 will hit shelves around the world towards the end of September this year.
Free PDF Army Lists: Making Konflikt ’47 as accessible as possible, the army lists will be available as free digital downloads from day one. These living documents will be regularly updated as the game expands. There are plans in place for the story of Konflikt ’47 to evolve over many years – meaning a regular supply of new units, new miniatures, and new rules!
Existing Models Fully Compatible: Already own a Konflikt ‘47 force, or thinking about diving straight in? Good news – the entire current range will be fully compatible, so you don’t have to worry about your units becoming obsolete. They may not be exactly the same as they are in the current edition (some may have exciting new abilities!), but all your miniatures will have a unit entry in the new army lists.
Operation Valentine: 1947 sees a joint US/Commonwealth assault on the Axis fortress-city of Stuttgart. While the shattered remnants of the city might seem like the end of the world, this is just the opening phase of a much larger campaign, upon which the outcome of the war in Europe might well hinge. Named heroes (and villains!) will carve out their reputation, and set in motion an evolving narrative over the course of many years. We can’t emphasise enough the importance of characters to both gameplay, and the Konflikt ’47 universe.
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!
The first wave of Konflikt ‘47 releases will be immense – new plastic infantry and mechs, a starter set, a fantastic rulebook, and more – but they’re just the beginning! We’ve got literally years of incredible content lined up for the system, including (of course) loads of fantastic new models, so you can expect regular releases for the foreseeable future. It won’t just be models, either – we’ll be diving deep into the lore behind the brutal, rift-enabled war of 1947, and we’ve got some amazing pieces of writing and artwork that we can’t wait to show off.
