We’re delighted to announce that the Warlord Games App will begin its rollout on 27th September as a fully operational Bolt Action: Third Edition army list builder and companion!

Developed by our partners at Maloric Digital, themselves dedicated wargamers with enormous experience in app design, the app has been available in various ‘test’ configurations for some time, encompassing Bolt Action: Second Edition, Blood Red Skies, and Black Seas. Late September will see it revealed in all its glory as your go-to for army list creation in the new edition of Bolt Action! Let’s look at some of the features you’ll have access to:

Army List Builder
Featuring all of the new Platoons, and designed specifically for Third Edition, the app gives you the power to write your army lists in the palm of your hand, and save them for future reference – no more lugging around printouts and sheets of paper!

Day One Readiness
Every single unit profile available at the start of the new edition will be included in the app, allowing you to create your army lists, safe in the knowledge that you aren’t missing that one crucial unit, and that all your points costs are correct!

Special Rules Library
Want to know exactly what Fieldcraft or Engineers do? You could use the index in your rulebook to find out – but with the app there’s no need to put your device away! A comprehensive special rules library allows you to double-check unit abilities at the touch of a button!

List Sharing and Downloads
Send your lists to other app users, or download it in an easy-to-read format – perfect for tournament organisers and players!

Cross-Platform Compatibility
A single account which works across the web, iOS, and Android versions of the app allows you to seamlessly transfer between your PC and mobile device while retaining all of your data and saved lists!

Regular Updates
Be the first to know about new books, units, and rules! As soon as rules updates are released, they’ll be live on the app, meaning you’ll never have to worry about outdated rules or unit profiles again!

Affordable Pricing
For just £1.99 a month, you get access to all of these amazing features, as well as ongoing support from the great team at Maloric – less than the cost of a paintbrush! In addition to this flexible monthly subscription, we’re also offering an annual subscription plan, which gives you twelve months for the price of eleven – £21.89. In addition to saving you money, you’ll also receive a £10 voucher* for the Warlord Games Webstore when you sign up to the yearly plan, giving you maximum bang for your buck!

*£10/€12/$16 dependent on native webstore, vouchers issued after signup, limited to one per customer. Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of issue.

The Warlord Games App Launches 27th September

The Warlord Games app will first launch for web browsers, followed shortly by Android and iOS – this is due to the standard implementation and approval process for these platforms, which usually takes a day or two – we’ll keep you updated as each goes online!

  1. Been using the app for the last 6 months and it’s excellent. Looking forward it getting updated. Hoping at some point Black Powder gets the same treatment. I know it’s not supposed to be played with points, but it would be great for the campaign books points values to be collected into his app as well.

  2. OK so the subscription is £21.89 per year. So let’s say I carry on playing Bolt Action until I’m 80 (I’m 55 now), so that’s 25 years. Assuming 2% inflation, the app will cost me a total of £701.14. That seems like a lot of money for a phone app.
I get that everyone is moving towards the subscription model, and I understand that’s because that way you can charge very high figures like £700 for an app, but it seems a little steep. For an 18 year old wanting a lifetime of app use, it would cost them a total of £2,641.67.

    1. interesting way of looking at things. Now calculate all your life expenses across 25 years. Everything gets very expensive if you decide cost based on 25 years.

  3. Not a fan of the subscription model. I love this game and will support it, but I will not be paying money to build my lists through an app. This is going to discourage growth because it is an added cost to access essentials of the game. If you included access to the army books and such as they release, I could see the value. But just to build your armies is a big turn off.

  4. You aren’t Games Workshop. Unless this is going to be frequently updated for balance and include all future content, I’ll be waiting for the Battlescribe update for free and not paying that high of a subscription.
Please consider offering alternative methods such as one time payments for access to a faction, or lowering the subscription price.

  5. And what about free application who do the same, but for free ?
I really love the actual application, and I am ready to pay if the quality still here. But if there are others application for free, I am not certain pay longer.

  6. The Easy Amry armybuilder is for free. So it can be done. I thought the step FoW made to withdraw their lists from the EA-armybuilder and charge for their own was a cheap trick solely aimed at forcing their customers out of more money. Not realy customer friendly inho. Notably for those who play regularly but not often, it is a bad bargain.

Why not make a free version with adds with the option of a payed version without adds.

  7. I would argue that there is a “perfect second-in-command” already and an app with a subscription model is most certainly not it.

I’ll still play V3 and support the game, but I (& my group) will return to pen & paper over any form of subscription. Imagine being overseas for a month or so, unable to play a game of BA but paying for the privilege of being able to build a list!?

  8. Not a big fan of the subscription model! I’d rather make a more expensive one time purchase or get an activation code with the purchase of the rulebook.

  9. Another subscription.
    Wonderful.
The app is currently the best army builder, but easyarmy isn’t that much worse, and I hate the push to make everything a subscription.
Let me pay per list like Forces of War, or even pay an upfront cost that is significantly higher, but I will not do another subscription.

  10. Quite unrealistic to think that most players would pay monthly for app like this. For most of the players it will be cheaper to buy own army book and use some free app or make own Excel. App like this should be supporting element promoting more sales not a business of it`s own.

  11. That’s such an unfortunate decision. No matter how fair it may be, subscription models are an immediate turn-off for most people. Here are a few suggestions that would fix this quite easily imo:
    1) Make the app a one-of purchase for the price of an Army of… book (the advantage over the paper version is you get all army lists, the disadvantage is you don’t have the nice paper format with photos etc. that people like to pore over). Let your customers decide.
    2) If you really want sustainable, regular income, then consider packaging it with something else. We’re all miniature addicts so it would be simple to combine the monthly Soldier of Fortune model (for example) with the app subscription for say 10 pounds a month. At least people will be getting a model every month and not just a virtual piece of content. You’d sell more models, make more regular income and people (shall I say collectors) will be happier with a real object coming in the post every month.

  12. There are a lot of comments from people who are not their target consumers.
So let’s look at things objectively:
    – The app is a plus, it’s not mandatory, plenty of other options out there. It’s not a barrier to entry it’s an enhancement. You’re free not to use it.
    – Warlord Games is not an IT company so most likely they have to hire people or another company for this product, it has a cost and miniature gaming is a niche hobby that is it might not be doable with only the marketing budget. It has a cost, but it seems very reasonable (in my opinion).
    – There are consumers for which the selling points of this app are interesting, there is a market for it, and these people have no impact whatsoever on your way of being a consumer of warlord products so what’s all this hate?
I honestly struggle to understand these types of negative comments. Nothing seems wrong here.

  13. Seems to be an Avery small cost compared to the benefits. One “armies of” book will cost you as much, and you get all future army lists included. If you play multiple nations, as many do, you have saved money right off the bat. I personally play 4 multiply that by the cost of each army book ( roughly $30 ) that’s a huge savings. Now consider all the supplement books are free too. I currently own all books but two. Again at ( roughly $30 per ) say 15-20 books, it’s a no brainer.
