It’s been a little while since we talked about the tours we organise here at Warlord Games HQ, and with the summer holidays coming up we thought it was a good time to remind you what we offer. Whether you’re local to Notts, or coming from the other side of the world, we’d love to show you around our home!
So, how do they work? Well, once you arrive (and have a cup of tea while you wait if you’re early – we are a British company, after all), one of our expert staff will be your guide, with tours taking 1-2 hours, depending on how many people are on the tour and how many questions you all want to ask. Each one starts with an overview of Warlord Games’ history and a look at some of our earliest miniatures, before taking you through to explore the magic behind the scenes.
Every tour gets to spend some time with John Stallard, founder and CEO of Warlord Games. John has an encyclopaedic knowledge of military history and miniature wargaming, not to mention the past, present, and future of Warlord Games. Make sure you have some questions prepared, because this is your chance to ask John about literally anything, from how we decide which books to release to how we make sure every tiny tunic has the right number of buttons, and anything in between.
Next up is the Design Studio, where you’ll get a chance to browse the cabinets full of painted miniatures, including some unreleased models – no cameras allowed in this part! There are also a wealth of work-in-progress models on various desks to whet your appetite and give you a look years into the future. You’ll be able to ask our studio painters for their tips and tricks, and to talk to whichever miniatures sculptors and writers are in the office.
The real highlight of the tour for many people is getting to see the miniatures being made! You’ll get a comprehensive demonstration of how metal, Warlord Resin, and traditional resin miniatures are made, and everyone on the tour will get at least one sample to take home.
Tours run pretty much every Friday, starting at 11:00. If you are interested in the tour this page gives you everything you need to book. We prefer to take bookings by phone – we know that sounds very 20th Century, but this gives us a chance to explain who will be at HQ that week so you know who you’ll be able to meet, as well as discuss any accessibility requirements.
You’ll get to take away plenty of mementoes from your visit – everyone gets to choose one of our exclusive miniatures from the extensive back catalogue of book figures, plus one of our plastic sprues. Naturally, the tour exits through the warehouse and store, so if you spot a kit on a shelf with your name on it and can’t wait until you leave to order it, our staff can arrange for it to come home with you! You can also book a gaming table in advance if you want to finish your trip off with a round of your favourite game.
Ready to plan your visit? We can’t wait to see you!
