It’s that time of year again – summer is here, the sun is shining, and we announce our annual Warlord Games Open Day, with a taste of what you can expect when you come to visit! We’ve maintained this tradition for many years, and we’re delighted to invite you to join us once again on September 21st this year! Not sure what to expect? What’s On?
Bolt Action: Third Edition! A mere week before the release of the newest edition of the world’s greatest WWII wargame, Bolt Action: Third Edition will of course be one of the star attractions on the day. Come and play a demo game, find out what all the fuss is about, and meet the team behind the game, including author Alessio Cavatore! You’ll also have an exclusive opportunity to be among the very first to get your copy of the new rulebook and starter set – if you pre-order and select the ‘collection at the Open Day’ option, they’ll be waiting for you when you arrive!

Games! As well as Bolt Action, you’ll be able to play demos and join in awesome participation games for our entire stable of rulesets! The excellent Friends of General Haig wargaming society will once more be gracing our open day with an enormous Pike & Shotte game set during the English Civil Wars – a great chance to get stuck in and roll some dice on the day!
Tours! We’re throwing our doors wide open, with the complete Warlord Games experience on display for all to see. Our tour will guide you through the entire journey of a miniature, from the initial concept to the finished product. You’ll visit the Design Studio, where our sculptors and figure painters will be on hand to explain their processes and share top hobby tips. You might even get a glimpse of some upcoming releases. We’ll then walk you through the manufacturing process – see how our miniatures are cast in three different materials, resin, metal and Warlord Resin. Finally, we’ll show you through a miniature’s final journey via packaging and on into the warehouse where a vast array of boxed sets, books, and blisters wait to be despatched worldwide.
Talks! We’ll have our traditional series of talks and seminars, featuring some absolute legends of wargaming. Warlord CEO and Founder John Stallard, Bolt Action author Alessio Cavatore, Judge Dredd and Blood Red Skies writer Andy Chambers, and more will bring you behind-the-scenes information, field your questions, and maybe even give a few previews of what the future holds for Warlord Games!
Deals! You’ll find all manner of great exclusive deals in our store, including the cost of your ticket off a massive range of starter sets, army, and fleet boxes! The Open Day is the perfect time to stock up on all your hobby essentials, or treat yourself to a new project… or both!
Hobby! Get involved on the day! We’ll have building and painting activities including a speed-painting contest, as well as a more ‘traditional’ painting competition with categories including Single Figure, Vehicle, and Diorama – look out for an article on how to enter in the not-too-distant future!
Painting Competition! Bring along your Warlord Games or Skytrex models and submit them for our painting competition. Judged by our expert in-house painters there will be several categories in which you can prove your painting mettle, and prizes for the winners:
- Non WWII Historical
- WWII
- Sci-Fi / Fantasy
- Diorama
You may only submit one entry per category, but may enter multiple categories. Entries must be handed in by 11:00 a.m. on the Open Day to be eligible for consideration (ask our staff to direct you on the day).
Exclusive Goodies! On arrival you’ll receive a goodie bag stuffed with awesome (and mysterious) items. We won’t spoil all the fun, but we will tell you that it’s our best one ever, and includes some exclusive Bolt Action swag that is ONLY going to be available on the day!
In addition, we’re continuing our tradition of bringing you a unique special edition Open Day miniature, with “NUTS!”. This fantastic model depicts US Brigadier-General Anthony McAuliffe delivering his laconic response to German surrender demands at Bastogne. He’s the perfect accompaniment for the new Battle of the Bulge starter set, as well as a brilliantly sculpted figure in his own right! If you can’t make it to the Open Day, don’t worry – he’ll be available for sale on our webstore for the entire weekend!
