What’s better than a wargames show? A wargames show surrounded by tanks!

The Southwest Model Show has been running at the Bovington Tank Museum for some years now and we got the opportunity to attend last year, but this year we’re proud to announce that we have partnered with the Tank Museum to run the event and bring more wargaming to the show. This is a great opportunity for us to bring together the worlds of scale model building and wargaming, two hobbies that have a very close connection.

We’re still in the planning stage of the event but here are some of the things you can expect to see in September:

Wargames manufacturers and scale modelling traders – what would a wargames show be without lots of toy soldiers to buy? To this end, we’ve invited a range of wargame manufacturers and traders to cover the whole spectrum of wargaming and modelling, from sci-fi and fantasy to historical.

Demo and participation games – We will of course be running demo games of Bolt Action, Konflikt ‘47, Black Powder, and many more. We will also be reaching out to clubs to attend the show to put on their fantastic looking participation games. You can also expect to see demos from the other wargames manufacturers attending the show.

Seminars – We plan on bringing some of our studio staff to the show to give talks on topics like “how a WWII tank turns into a K47 Walker”. We’re also planning to invite members from the wargaming community to give talks on the hobby and hopefully a live stream of “Tea Up, Brushes Down” by myself and Andrew, where we’ll answer your hobby questions.

A Bolt Action tournament – our tournament organisers are putting together a 20-30 player, five-game tournament at the show. Expect it to have a fairly obvious theme!

Activities – Painting tips and tricks session with one of our studio artists and a build-a-tank session.

This of course is all in addition to being right in the middle of one of the world’s largest collections of armoured fighting vehicles! The Tank Museum has over 300 vehicles from 30 different countries spread across nine exhibition halls, giving you plenty of on-the-spot inspiration for your modelling and gaming!

We’ll keep you updated on what’s happening over the coming months, so watch this space. The Southwest Model Show takes place on the 12th-13th September this year, and you can get your tickets below – we can’t wait to see you there!
