We’re getting back into the swing of tournament season, with fantastic events coming thick and fast. After the disruption caused by COVID, we’re particularly delighted to announce that the Bolt Action Grand Tournament will be returning in August at BritCon 2023, in conjunction with the British Historical Games Society (BHGS)! With the Player’s Pack now finished and ready, (and available for free here), let’s take a look at what kind of event it’s shaping up to be.
Played over three days, and encompassing the Bolt Action English Nationals, the Grand Tournament will see top competitive players from across the world battling it out for tabletop supremacy on fantastic boards in the heart of Nottingham, the spiritual home of wargaming. This year’s Grand Tournament will be a multi-format event, with players required to assemble both a 750 and 1,250 point army, playing three games at the lower points value and four at the higher. This means that players will have to construct a force that remains competitive and effective at both values, as well as being adept at both large and small engagements! All Theatre Selectors are on the table, so there will be some seriously good armies present, but the theming requirements ensure that they remain as faithful to history as possible!
There’s a lot to play for at this year’s Grand Tournament, with the top-ranked player (of course) taking home the honour of being crowned Bolt Action Grand Champion, while the top-ranked UK player will be named the Bolt Action English Champion, with points from the event counting towards the British Championships series. There’s also the all-important bragging rights at stake – can you finish higher than your friends and clubmates? No matter the scores, the Grand Tournament is shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of friends, fun, and frantic action. There will also be plenty of prize support goodies to be won, including no fewer than ten of this season’s event-exclusive Major Erwin König figures!
Only one person can become the Bolt Action Grand Champion. If you think you’ve got what it takes to become a legend, then BritCon is the only place to be this August!

Hi
The variation to point defence with the attacker secretly writing out which objective they are going for is awesome. It has led to some very enjoyable and tense games, I can’t recommend it enough.
