Warlord Games bossman John Stallard is a lifelong hobbyist, and works on a very simple principle – plug away for an hour or two every single evening. In this manner, he’s amassed a frankly staggering collection of miniatures, with dozens of enormous armies populating his spectacular gaming room. Let’s take a little look at what he’s been up to lately.
This month has been a real mixed bag of scales and systems – we’ve got everything from Japanese walkers (in anticipation of the upcoming new edition of Konflikt ’47) to troops for Black Powder Epic Battles: Revolution!. Variety is the spice of life!
John’s plucky Belgian line infantry form up for battle. He’s already done a regiment of these chaps on the march, and decided to go for a lighter blue on the coats here, which helps them stand out on the table.
Note the Grenadier company with red cords and plumes, and the Light company in green. Although the colours probably wouldn’t have been carried in 1815, every wargamer loves a good standard, and John’s no different!

This Sasori walker joins John’s Japanese collection after he was ‘persuaded’ by Head of Sales Steve Morgan to expand his Bolt Action force into a Konflikt ’47 one. Always up for a challenge, John’s modelled it in a rearing pose, as it lunges from its cunningly concealed position to strike.

These Continental Militia are ready to rise against the British Crown! John has previously been working on some British forces for Black Powder Epic Battles: Revolution, and decided to change it up a bit. “Paint quickly and cheerfully” was his mantra here, and he enjoyed using almost his entire paintbox to produce a varied appearance, picking out the buckskins and linen hunting shirts. Getting the hats neat and tidy really brings this unit together, and with a change of flag they could just as easily be used as Loyalists!
We’ll be back soon with another snapshot of John’s relentless hobby progress. Remember, a couple of hours every evening makes short work of even the largest projects!

The payoff – awesome games on a grand scale!
