We recently spotted Marketing’s Steff trying to sneak into the office via the back entrance, clutching a figure case. This seemed suspicious, so we apprehended her and took a look. Wouldn’t you know it, she’s gone and painted another K47 army, without telling anyone! Failure to disclose a cool hobby project is a serious offence which would usually incur a fine of many, many packets of biscuits, but we let her off with a warning when she agreed to tell us all about it…
SS – With each new Konflikt ‘47 book I try to do a new army. The original release saw me painting up the Japanese starter army, and I enjoyed it so much I immediately painted up a Soviet force. Then Festung Europa forced me, against my will, to make a Totenrotte force (Steff begged us to let her get her hands on the new plastics ahead of time… -ed.). I then stalled a little between the release of Festung Europa and Invasion Amerika, trying to decide if I wanted to do a US army or an Automated Infantry Platoon as my next project.
This changed when I saw the ‘Supply Raid’ scenario in Invasion Amerika, where the US player takes 300 points of civilians armed with a mixture of submachine guns, shotguns, and rifles, to take on a small force of elite Japanese Ghost Warriors. This really inspired me to make a purely narrative-driven army, without thinking about what’s ‘good’, or if the list would be in any way competitive. This force is themed around those townsfolk unlucky enough to find themselves in the path of the Ghosts – but they don’t take kindly to strangers around these parts, and they won’t go down without a fight! I did, however, expand it significantly from the scenario list as I wanted something that could play normal games of K47 as well – clearly this is a well-organised militia! I also leaned a little more into ‘campy’ tropes, which aren’t something you normally see in Konflikt ’47, but I like to have fun with my projects!
I really enjoy storytelling with my forces, and I made sure to add character to every single model while building the army through conversions and kitbashes. This helped me pick what colours to use and really informed how each model turned out. This project took me all over our ranges, from Pike & Shotte to Bolt Action, and I’m really happy with how it’s ended up.
