April is coming, and that means it’s time for a new Event Special Figure to make an appearance here at Warlord HQ. Inglorious is about to go back undercover, as another character emerges from the shadows. Let’s meet Major Gus March-Phillipps!

With all of our Event Special Figures, we like to mix history and fiction, and this year’s is no exception. As the name suggests, it’s British Major Gustavus ‘Gus’ March-Phillipps of the Small Scale Raiding Force – with a nod to his extremely fictionalised (and heavily bearded) portrayal in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare! March-Phillipps was one of the early pioneers of British special forces operations who preceded the foundation of the SAS, and an extremely capable soldier whose short wartime career encompassed several daring missions.
Our figure depicts March-Phillipps in action during Operation Postmaster, a clandestine 1941 mission to seize Italian and German shipping from a neutral port in Spanish Guinea – taking a touch of inspiration from how he was shown in the film! Brandishing a somewhat anachronistic suppressed Sten gun and with an expression of maniacal glee, this Event Special Figure can be used in almost any British or Partisan force looking for a special operator to lead or join one of their units. Paired with last year’s figure, Inglorious, he makes for one hell of a tag-team! We’ve also produced some special rules for fielding him in Bolt Action: Third Edition, which you can see at the bottom of this article!
Want to get your hands on Major Gus March-Phillipps? Of course you do! This awesome model isn’t for sale, however. As our Event Special Figure for 2025, he’s only available as a prize at tournaments and events we support – the only way to get hold of one is to turn up and win one!

Warlord Games supports tournaments worldwide with awesome prizes, our Events Calendar, and features via our official social media channels. To see if your event qualifies for support, all you need to do is drop an email to info@warlordgames.com. Our award-winning Customer Service team will put you in touch with Event Coordinator David Barr if you’re outside North America, or Jon Russell if you’re across the pond. These two chaps will be happy to guide you through the process of getting support for your event, and are also fonts of wisdom when it comes to event organisation itself – if you’ve got any questions, fire away!
Fielding Major Gus March-Phillipps in Bolt Action is really simple – his model stands in for almost anyone you want to have armed with an SMG! If, however, you want to use him with a British or Partisan force as the man himself, we suggest using the profile below:
Cost | 110pts (Veteran) |
Composition | Major Gus March-Phillipps (counts as a Company Commander) |
Weapons | SMG |
Special Rules | – Fanatics – Behind Enemy Lines – Infiltrators – ‘He Really Hates Germans’: March-Phillipps may re-roll any failed order test he makes if the opposing force includes at least one unit from Armies of Germany. He really doesn’t like them! – Suppressed SMG: March-Phillipps’ silenced SMG inflicts two pin markers instead of one if he scores a hit when shooting at an enemy unit, unless he is at point-blank range. They simply don’t know where the shots are coming from! |
Want to give Major Gus March-Phillips some back-up? Check out our Commando and Partisan ranges for plenty of modelling and painting inspiration.
2025 is a great year to get out and get playing and running tournaments, and Major Gus March-Phillipps is a worthy reward for the victors. Good luck, and have fun in your quest to win one!
