Warlord Games Open Day 2022
September 3, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm UTC+0
£12Warlord Games is throwing its doors wide open once again for our annual celebration of all things Warlord. Join with like-minded hobbyists to get a peek behind the scenes of what makes a miniatures company tick, engage in conversation with our expert designers and painters to learn industry insights, or participate in some good old-fashioned demonstration games. You might even spy some miniatures that haven’t quite made it to release just yet…
There’ll be a whirlwind of activity, in fact, there’s so much stuff we’re still ironing details out, but we can confirm the following:
- HQ Tours – see behind the scenes and follow the journey from concept to despatch of Warlord Games games and models.
- Seminars from leading industry stalwarts including Andy Chambers, Adrian McWalter, Paul Sawyer and John Stallard.
- Meet our figure designers and painters – learn new techniques and find out how they generate such amazing results.
- Meet John Stallard and see his collection of historical artefacts.
- Hail Caesar (War of the Roses) demonstration game by Alan & Michael Perry.
- Blood Red Skies participation game.
- Special Offers (including a discount from your ticket of £12 off from a starter game of your choice)
- Raffle in support of the Models for Heroes charity.
- Catering on site (including free tea and coffee).
- More to be announced in the coming weeks…
As per all our Open Days, there will be an exclusive figure free for all those who attend – this year is no exception but the miniature is not quite ready to show off yet! We can, however, reveal that this year’s Open Day miniature will portray legend of Special Forces, Lieutenant-Colonel ‘Paddy’ Mayne.
‘Paddy’ Mayne
A celebrated athlete and sportsman prior to WWII, the Irish-born Mayne represented both the British Lions and Ireland in rugby. His antics during the British Lions tour of 1938 became the stuff of legend – and frankly, were a little bit bonkers.
According to legend, Mayne was recruited into the SAS from a prison cell (awaiting court martial for having struck a commanding officer) but injected much-needed success into the SAS operations in the campaigns of North Africa. Mayne personally claimed over 100 aircraft destroyed during airfield strikes over this period.
Mayne took command of 1st SAS Regiment in January 1943, embarking on campaigns through Western Europe. His last feat of heroics occurred at the head of the Allied advance into Germany on 9th April 1945, where he coolly drove a jeep up and down a road adjacent to a woodland near Oldenburg filled with German positions allowing his gunner to continuously pour fire into them. For this last action, he was controversially not awarded a Victoria Cross.
The ‘Paddy’ Mayne miniature will be free to every attendee of the Open Day. If you are unable to attend the event itself and still want the miniature, fear not, it will also be available for sale on the Warlord Webstore between 3rd and 4th September 2022. Keep your eyes on the Warlord Games Newsletter over the coming weeks for the completed miniature!
