SUMMARY:Britcon - Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Britcon 7th-9th August 2015\nSupported by Warlord Games! \nWhat is Britcon?  \nBritcon … \n\n… is the UK’s biggest multi-period\, multi-ruleset wargames competition\n… has events in over a dozen different rulesets and periods for you to take part in\n… offers onsite accommodation and an onsite bar all priced at discounted “university” rates\n… includes one of the North West’s largest 2-day wargames tradeshows\n… is held in Manchester only steps away from from Piccadilly Station\n\nYes\, the largest event in the BHGS calendar will be returning to the now-familiar surroundings of UMIST in (always-sunny) Manchester over the Friday-Sunday of 7-9th August 2015. \n(I already know I’m going – just take me to the booking form!) \nWhat’s happening this year?  \n\nPeriods being played\nVenue and onsite accommodation\nThe Britcon Trade Show – full 2014 trader details (2015 coming soon) \nBritcon Bring & Buy\n\nWhat else to look out for…? \n\nPrices Frozen – astonishingly yes\, after another good year we are able to keep the entry prices flat for 2014 too. The Britcon entry fee also remains the same no matter how many games you choose to play\nThe return of the Britcon Fiver – we can’t technically guarantee it at this stage\, but if bookings reach our projected numbers we will again hope to be in a position to hand back £5 per player in the form of the very popular “£5 off any £10 purchase with any trader” deal we first introduced in 2013.\nSame better layout -after a very well received 2014 edition we are keeping the extra gaming room\, which will allow us to keep growing all of the existing periods including “Saga” and “Bolt Action” \, “40k” and introducing new Ancients period L’Art de la Guerre”\nRetaining the 5- or 6-game option – admittedly not many people dropped a game\, but those that did seemed to really appreciate it so we’ve retained options to drop either the the Friday or Saturday night’s game in the larger gaming periods\, and extended the principle to some of the others. You can confirm when you book how many rounds you are planning on playing in.\n“Drop a Score” returns – This seemed to produce more decisive games\, and a more relaxed atmosphere as well so in the periods where players are able to drop a round we will again be working out the winners on the basis of their best 5 scores out of 6.\nAccomodation still optional – We’ve negotiated some great rates at UMIST for a variety of standards of rooms – all still in stumbling distance of the venue and bar as usual\, but you are totally free to book and stay elsewhere if you wish – if you are prepared to walk 10 minutes we heard of hotels with rates as low as £17/night last year\, so look around. If you do want to stay onsite there will soon be a separate booking portal to book the UMIST rooms that you will be taken to once you confirm your Britcon entry.

SUMMARY:Phalanx - St Helens
DESCRIPTION:About the Show\n\n \nNext Show: Saturday 20th June 2015\nPhalanx is an wargaming and skirmish gaming convention established for over 20 years focusing on miniatures rather than card games or board games. It offers an excellent opportunity to browse a massive range of manufacturers products up close and personal. You can speak to the traders face to face\, handle the miniatures before you decide to buy and haggle on price if you want a better deal. \nThere are over 40 traders each year offering products which cover every aspect and period of wargaming  from historical periods to ultra Sci-Fi. \nThe traders are from all over the UK most bring plenty of stock but if you have a particularly large order I advise contacting them first and and placing your order on the phone to be picked up at the convention. \nAround the main hall you will find demonstration games created by clubs and traders which add flavour and colour to the show\, you can chat with the organisers of the games at your leisure\, you will find them enthusiastic about the building of the terrain\, the collecting of the figures and the story behind the game. Some games are participation and offer a chance to join in and have some fun\, kids especially love to get involved in the participation aspect to demonstration games. \nThe venue is a large sports centre with plenty of easy parking for the car owner\, but if you are travelling by public transport the Centre is opposite a main line train station and bus stop. \nGood lighting offers a detailed look at the products on show. \nUnfortunately the cafe is not available again this year\, but a caterer is being organised for the day and vending machine facilities are available.

It is organised by a bunch of guys who are keen – call it fanatical – games players who wanted to run the UK’s best games convention (Richard Denning and Pat Campbell who founded the event\, Tony Hyams who with Richard is the director\, Lindsey Harrison who runs the volunteers\, John Dodd who is the power behind anything RPG\, Keith Thomasson who looks after logistics and Queen of Admin Caroline Dorel.) \nUK Games Expo is now a very time consuming operation and all of us spend hundreds of hours on it. \nWe also rely on a host of volunteers of which there are too many to name here. All are UNPAID volunteers who help run the event because they like it to succeed. \nWho comes to UK Games Expo? In 2014 we had 5000 unique visitors and 10000 attendances over the weekend. This includes many gamers of all types but also a large number of families and children. It is open to all and NOT restricted. \nHOW? \nHow do I find out more and how do I book up for it? \nThis website has extensive information on all aspects of UK Games Expo. You can read up on where the convention is\, about hotels and travel to it\, about ticket prices (and you are able to book online or on the day) and all about the companies who attend and what games they will be bringing. There are details about the Family zone\, Seminars\, Authors and Artists and much more. Just get reading. \nWe recommend you follow on Twitter and Facebook as well as registering for the newsletter. \nYou can JUST turn up and pay on the door OR you can book tickets for tournaments and entry online from Easter 2015.

SUMMARY:Campaign - Milton Keynes
DESCRIPTION:CAMPAIGN: A convention by Wargamers for everyone\n\n \nAfter positive discussions with thecentre:mk management\, Milton Keynes Wargames Society are delighted to announce the return of Campaign to Middleton Hall\, thecentre:mk. Campaign 2015 will take place over the weekend 9th/10th May 2015. We will be working closely with the centre:mk Marketing and Exhibition departments to improve both the presentation of Campaign\, and the interaction between Campaign and those members of the public passing through the event. I am sure that all of you that intend being part of Campaign 2015\, will be inspired by the challenge of raising the profile of our hobby. I would like to thank the centre:mk management for their enthusiastic support for a continuation of our fourteen year relationship. So\, tell the wives and girlfriends its time for shopping in Milton Keynes! \nThecentre:mk is the large modern shopping centre of Milton Keynes. Middleton Hall is a 2\,500 sq ft exhibition space\, within thecentre:mk\, adjacent to the John Lewis store. \nCampaign Hosts: National League \nCampaign has taken place in this most unique venue since 2001. Our objective is to present our hobby to as many people as possible. Whilst existing wargamers benefit from the lack of any admission charge and the obvious on site attractions for partners or children\, the thousands of MK shoppers have free access to Campaign as they move about thecentre:mk. The centre management estimate an average footfall of 100\,000 people on Saturday and 50\,000 people on Sunday. Obviously not all of these people will pass through Middleton Hall\, or Campaign\, but the John Lewis store is very popular and Middleton Hall is situated at John Lewis’s main entrance. \nThe Show

TOURNAMENT POINTS (TP)\nVictory is calculated as described in the Scenarios being played and Tournament points are awarded for victories\, defeats and draws as shown below:\nResult Tournament Points\nVictory 3 TP\nDraw 1 PT\nLoss 0 TP \nIn addition\, players must also record how many requisition points of enemy units they destroy during their games. These destroyed enemies points (let’s call them ‘Casualty points’) are always added together in a running total and are used as a tiebreaker to pair players that are on the same level of Tournament points.\nFrom the second round\, players will be paired using a Swiss system (i.e. matching players on the same amount of TPs\, in descending order).\nIn case of more than two players on the same number of TPs\, players will be matched in descending ‘Casualty points’ total.\nIf they have the same TP and Casualty points total\, players will be paired in alphabetic order.\nWhen two players that have already met in a previous turn are matched to play each other again\, they must randomly select opponents from the players on the next table down. This rule does not apply on the top five tables during the last turn of the tournament. \n7. WINNING THE TOURNAMENT\nThe winner is determined at the end of the last round\, according to the following criteria: \n\nThe player with the most TP will be the winner.\nIn case of same TP at the top\, the winner will be the player with the highest Casualty points total.\nIn case of same Casualty points total\, we’ll see if the players have played each other during the course of the tournament and the winner will be the winner of such match.\nIf the players never met in the tournament\, the tournament ends with a joint victory and the players share the first prize.\n\nTournament Schedule\n08:30-9:00 enrollment \n09:15-11:45 Game 1 \nlunch \n12:30-15:00 Game 2 \n15:30-18:00 Game 3 \n18:30 prize ceremony \n

SUMMARY:WMMS - Wolverhampton 8th March
DESCRIPTION:Alumwell Wargames Society Presents \nWMMS 2015 \nWest Midlands Military Show \nSunday 8th March \nAldersley Leisure Village\nAldersley Rd\nWolverhampton\nWV6 9NW \nDoors Open 10:00am until 4:00pm\n50 Trade Stands\, 25 Demo & Participation Games\nModelling Club Displays\, Living History.\nFree Parking\, Bar & Food\, Bring & Buy.\nAdults £3.00 Children £1.00 Family Ticket £5.00 \n \nThe WMMS is now in its 38th year and is the largest one day show in the midlands area. The 2014 show attracted over 1000 visitors and participants. \nThe show consists of a trade fair of around 50+ stands\, 25+ demonstration and participation games. We also have a good military modelling attendance along with various re-enactment groups \nYou will find a list of traders and demo games etc elsewhere on the site. These will be updated at regular intervals during the new year as late traders are confirmed\, and layout plans are finalised. \nAldersley Leisure Village is a modern venue which caters for numerous sports\, including\, football\, hockey\, athletics\, cycling and small bore rifle shooting. It was also a training facility for the 2012 Olympic Games. \nThe main hall is one of the largest in the Midlands allowing good access\, and ensuring a comfortable amount of room for all our visitors on a single level. Disabled access is excellent. There is a baby changing room for our very young visitors! \nParking is free. Hot drinks and snacks are available in the foyer. The licensed bar will also serve food from 11:00am. Please see your show day programme for up to date information on services available. \nWMMS: A Brief History  \nThe West Midland Military Modelling Show origins stretch back into the 1970s. Alumwell has been home to wargamers and modellers for considerable time. During the 1970s David Bickley and Phil Robinson steadily built the Show up into one of the Midlands most popular one-day events. From the mid-1980s to baton was passed to Paul Yates and David Jarman who continued to expand the show as its popularity grew. \nHowever Alumwell School was becoming more and more run down. Facilities were being withdrawn\, and the parking situation chronic. \nIt became evident that if the show was to continue\, a new venue must be found. \nAldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton looked a good prospect. A large modern venue with better than average facilities\, not too far from the motorway network. So it was with a deep breath that the 2005 Show moved to Aldersley. \nAfter a few years finding its feet\, the event is now firmly established as the biggest one day show in the West Midlands. Total attendance is now over the 1000 mark once again. We still have scope to expand and improve the show year on year. So hopefully 2014 will have new and more varied exhibits\, and more traders for you. \nNext years Show will be on Sunday 8th March 2015
