DESCRIPTION:Well people\, this is it! Our first ever Tournament for “Beyond the Gates of Antares”. I will release a proper rules pack nearer the time with scenario rules\, but for now here is what you need to know. \nThis will be a 1\,000 point event over 3 games using the standard Faction Army lists (So no Vector formations etc…) Tournament Points will be awarded for the following:  \nMajor Win – 4 points\nMinor Win – 3 points\nDraw – 2 points\nMinor Loss – 1 point \nAn additional Tournament point will also be awarded for a prompt submission of your Army list and another for fully painted forces\, so take the opportunity to get painting your dudes and thinking about what you’ll be taking. I will publish the email address for army list submissions nearer the time.  \nPrize support is being provided by the lovely chaps at Warlord Games (Thanks Karl!) There will be prizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place\, together with Most Sporting and the Best painted army as voted for by the players. Rumours of a humiliating Booby prize for last place are completely unfounded and should be ignored. \nThe event is being held at the Southampton Sluggaz club. The address is: St Denys Community Centre\, Priory Road\, St Denys\, Southampton\, Hampshire\, SO17 2JZ. There is free parking on site.  \nThe Tournament entry fee is £10.00 (Members of the Southampton Sluggaz club get the usual discounted rate down to £7.50) which will need to be paid in advance by Paypal to secure your place. While imperfect\, this will help to mitigate the impact of some of the more problematic units in the game without resorting to house rules or ‘comping’. \nWe’d really encourage players to go ‘as themed as possible’\, and if you want to do a specific unit at a specific time and place (a reinforced platoon from Johnny Frost’s Bn at Arnhem\, for instance\, or maybe a Panzer Zug from the 21st Panzer Division in 1941\, or whatever) then crack on and we’ll be suitably impressed (and there might be a prize for ‘Best Force’ or similar in the mix to reward that). But if all you want is a force that looks right for the time and place for your chosen nation\, that’s fantastic too. \nWe’ve found that the overwhelming majority of forces fit into this structure with little or no tweaking. If time’s limited or historical research isn’t your strong suit then the guidelines are designed to help you and the event organisers will be very happy to offer any assistance they can if desired – remember this is aimed at improving everyone’s enjoyment\, it’s not meant to be a chore.

All the miniatures are provided along with terrain and we have table bosses that will be happy to introduce you to any of our games so you can try as many as you have time for. \n\nThe game tables will have varying levels of play\, from beginner to advanced\, for Hail Caesar\, Black Powder\, Bolt Action\, and Beyond the Gates of Antares. Additionally there will be tables for Test of Honour\, Terminator: Genisys\, Project Z and Konflikt ’47 and several others we are just waiting for final confirmation on those. No previous knowledge of the rules is needed. Just jump in and start playing. We have also expanded our playing field to include all types of gaming. MIKE GOMEZ is bringing his 28mm FULL SIZE CIRCUS MAXIMUS Chariot racing game\, Walker and crew from ARENA REX will be here for the Gladiatorial Combat angle and of course we will have Hail Caesar tables for you to really immerse yourself into the grand spectacle of the Mighty Empire. You really cannot miss this! We will also have an area for Board Games\, two additional tournaments\, and an open gaming area. The first round of the tournaments will begin at 7:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. the beginner demo tables will start running\, all to be concluded by 10 p.m. \nThe hall reopens at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday\, 27 May\, with round two of the Bolt Action tournament starts at 8 a.m. and all the demo tables will be ready to go. The tournament winner will receive a free copy of the new Strike on Kar’A 9 box set! There’ll also be a prize for best painted / coolest looking army – and that prize will be the new Antares dice game. So… get practicing/painting if you want to win either of those. All entrants will also receive a very limited edition Antares miniature.\nFORMAT\nEach player will play three games. The three scenarios you will play will be:\n– Reinforce the position (p142 of rule book)\n– Hold the line (p144)\n– Recover at all costs (p146) \nIf you achieve the victory condition in the scenario you will receive 3pts. Achieving a draw is worth 1pt.\nYou will also have three ‘minor objectives’. These will be the same for all the players. Before each game you will have to decide which minor objective you will look to achieve for that game. A minor objective can only be attempted once. By the end of the third game you will therefore have attempted all of your minor objectives. \nA minor objective may be worth 0.5pt\, 1pt\, or 1.5pt. It is up to you do decide how many points a given minor objective is worth. However this points value can also only be used once\, so if in the first game you allocate 1.5pt the minor objective you are looking to achieve\, in the second game you can only choose between 1pt or 0.5pt. If you chose 0.5pt for the second minor objective\, then for the third and final game/minor objective it must be 1pt. This means that if you are skilful enough to complete all your three minor objectives over the three games you will receive an additional 3pts to you overall final score. You will need to note down the minor objective you are looking to achieve\, and points you will allocate to it\, before each game begins. You should probably not tell your opponent which objective you have selected\, but that’s up to you… \nThe three minor objectives are:\n1) ‘Decapitation tactics’ – Kill the enemy commander\n2) ‘Infiltration’ – Move one of your units off the table at the opponent’s edge\n3) ‘Moral duty’ – No more than three of your units are destroyed by the end of the game \nThere will not be any additional points scored for the number of opposing units destroyed (as can happen in other tournaments). However\, we will still keep track of this as if at the end there is a draw on the number of points overall it will then be decided by who has destroyed the most opposing units over the course of the three games. If it’s still a draw\, then it will be head-to-head. If it’s still a draw after than then we’ll toss a coin \nARMIES\nYou army list should be no more than 750pts\, and follow the Force Selection requirements set out in the rule book. You will have to select one infantry model to be your commander. All army lists\, including which model is the nominated commander\, will need to be sent to me at least one week before the tournament\, so by 18th March\, so I can check it. Send it to jsbuckley@gmail.com. \nOFFICATING\nI will officiate the day\, and judge the best painted army. I will also be competing. To avoid any accusations of bias etc it will not be possible for me to win either of the prizes\, so in the unlikely event that I win the tournament the second-placed player will get the prize. \nWHAT YOU NEED TO BRING\n– Miniatures\n– Rulebook\n– Tape-measure\n– Pin-markers\n– Blast templates\n– Order dice and playing dice\n– Good sense of humour and a commitment not to be a dick about things.\nAlso\, while I’m officiating\, I will also be playing\, and in any event I’m not brilliant at the rules of Antares\, so please try and really read up on the rules so that games don’t get bogged down going through the rule book. \nON THE DAY\nWarboar opens at midday so please try to be there for 12pm sharp. We’ll kick off the first game by 12.45 latest. Each game will last a maximum of 2 hours. I’m hoping we’ll finish up by 7pm. Hot food and drink is served at the venue.
